RH / RBK Season Update for April 30

UpdatedFriday May 1, 2020 by RH/RBK LL.

April 30, 2020

We anticipate an update on a district level sometime in the next week, as the various states and districts assess and update their guidance.  In the meantime, we will continue to do two things:

  1. Update the website as information becomes available
  2. Update the website and send an email to registered players once a definitive decision has been made on the 2020 Spring Season

In that spirit, today Little League International announced that some difficult conclusions had been reached.  The 2020 Little League World Series at all levels as well as the regional qualifying events have been cancelled.  In addition, the 2020 MLB Little League Classic in which the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles were scheduled to play in Williamsport on August 23 has been cancelled.  You can read the full announcement here.

In the announcement from Little League International, they commented that today's decision does not determine what can happen at the state and community level.  In the coming days, representatives from across New York as well as other states will be meeting to discuss guidance at the local level taking into account the recommendations of local and regional health authorities.  We will await an update from district 17 before the next update on the Red Hook / Rhinebeck Little League 2020 Spring season.  We can share that any and all options are on the table to enable play at the local level in 2020, and we favor any option that enables youth baseball to be played while providing for the safety and well being of our players and their families.

If you would like to discuss any or all of this, please contact Jeff at rhinebeckll.treasurer@gmail.com or 914-489-3479.  We hope to provide a next update soon, and before May 15.  Thank you for your patience.  We miss seeing our players on the field.
